How to be Successful in your Travel Nurse Interview

interview

Are you currently looking for a nursing job or preparing for an interview? Or maybe you are already a nurse wanting to improve your interview skills? Well, there are a couple of things that you need to learn so you can crush that interview and get your dream job.

Preparation for the interview

Travel nurses are different since they are only hired to work for a limited amount of time. Thus, employers are looking for certain qualifications for the job, commonly including:

  • Clinical skills and competency,
  • Work experience,
  • Team player,
  • On-call availability,
  • Strong work ethic, and
  • Good recommendation from previous work.

You need to prepare to market yourself to your interviewer, ensuring that you have these positive qualities, at the very least. To do this, you may need to do a little bit of research about the institution that you want to get into. You may also want to research the field itself, so you can be prepared in case your interviewer asks you something clinical. More importantly, practice your speaking skills.

During the interview

Be relaxed and present yourself with confidence in your skills, experience, and credentials. It’s important to remember that you should build a good rapport with your interviewer, whether for the opportunity at hand or another one in the future.

Be sure to mention some of your past work accomplishments and relate them to how you can bring success to this company. Furthermore, ask your employer relevant questions regarding the company and the work you’re applying for. It will show that you take an interest and want to have a good relationship with the employer, as opposed to getting just  another job.
